There were the Guardians, the Isolists, the Theorists and the Blenders.

The Isolists

The Guardians and the Isolists obeyed the Code and supported the Old Ways. Although, there was one major difference; the Isolistic political stream wanted total isolation from any human activity and were generally neutral towards them. Whatever their opinion was about the human race, they all agreed that they should live separate lives to prevent war and conflict. Decades later they also added human interbreeding and keeping the race ''pure'' as a reason.

The Guardians

The Guardians obey the Code but worship or nurture the human race, depending on their view of the metamorph's ancestors, also referred to as the Old Race.  The Guardian movement strongly opposed inbreeding with humans just like the Isolists, they also wanted to keep distance but with one exception; the Gaurdians saw it as their duty to guide their unevolved ancestors and prevent the Old Race from destroying themselves. A sort of real guardian angels. They had special forces that lived outside of Cyberspace and blended in with the human population. These ''agents'' were the eyes and ears of the Academy and they saved lives of many unfortunate civilians. Too often, this led to romances and sexual intercourse with humans, thereby, threatening the so-called ''purity''.
Most of the times the metamorphian parent annihilated the halfblood child(ren) as soon as possible.
Most of the children that are not destroyed, end up in Cyberspace getting killed by the so-called ''Childminder''. A guardian, assigned to destroy those infants and get rid of the remains.
The Guardians were about honour and duty. A root from which later on the fused Separatists and Imperialists would derive. They enforced the Code like no other movement with severe punishments such as ripping off limbs, from which implanted wings hurt most, a punishment named Katea (infinitive) Kataea (plural). Unlike humans, metamorphs do regenerate limbs.

The Blenders

The Blenders are exactly the opposite of the Isolists. The Blenders wanted to make contact with the human race because they saw more opportunities for trading and enrichment or enlightenment than dangers. They also supported human/metamorph unions but were against their possible offspring. The Blenders wanted to rewrite the Code, like many alternative streams, the Blenders weren't very popular. Although, by a twist of fate and a lot of cunning many of the Blender's ideals came true. But instead of improving both civilizations and living happily ever after, the contacts would be exploited for war and the extinction of mankind.

The Theorists

The Theorists also wanted to reform the Code. They were against the major role of religion and the Motherstorm in the Code and life. They wanted to get rid of the Motherstorm idiocracy and fiercely opposed the murder of children, whether they were mixed blood or not. Just like the Theorists opposed the Motherstorm, they also disapproved of the never ending worshipping of the Old Race and over time, they developed a certain hostility towards the human race. Despite that, they tolerated the presence of ''impures'' because they couldn't help that they were born that way.

The results

The secrecy and cold-hearted attitude of the Isolists towards the Old Race enraged the Guardians in a political mortal combat of supremacy.
The Blenders found the two most powerful parties too narrow-minded to properly govern the Academy and the Theorists found all the parties, especially the Guardians, religious zealots. ''Zealots can not rule a nation without being blinded by ideals.'' Was their quote.

The two last parties

In the final era of the Academy, ideals from all parties fused together in two final parties; the Imperials and the Separatists. Both parties wanted to end the partial democracy and to reform the Code to more modern standards.

The Imperials

The Imperials wanted open borders with the human race and still follow the Old Ways like the Isolists. They wanted to honor the Motherstorm like the Guardians but distrusted the human race like the Theorists. The Imperials also tolerated already existing halfbloods, further more, they openly supported human interbreeding.

You may think that the Imperials ultimately won, but nothing could be more wrong.

The Separatists

The Separatists wanted to be prepared for the worst and then, opening the borders, yet very limited to trading. A gruesome combination of Isolistic secrecy and Guardianical agency, they abducted humans with the motto; ''To improve the fertility of our race and save us from extinction.'' This was about right, since the metamorphian population has been declining since the dawn of Cyberspace. By re-forging the Code they wanted to make a fertile metamorphian race with all it's powerful traits. It was only after the winning of the elections that they revealed this. Like the Theorists, they wanted to get rid of religion altogether. Just like the Imperials nothing gained more honor than killing an opponent stronger than you, whether it was a fellow classmate or a metafection. The Separatists did not tolerate halfbloods at all. You can probably imagine why, they would mess with the carefully set up plans of a better race. The ''production'' of humans contributed to the idea that humans would be inferior to the metamorphian race and thus, increasing their general disgust of them.
Before the complete takeover of Vox the Academy was ruled by the Principal (president, king or whatever you want to compare it with.) with a partial democracy. There were only 4 parties (later on only 2) that had a major influence on the actions taken by the Principal. It could be seen as constitutional dictatorship.
